Webinar: “Regional Inequalities – The underestimated risk for Europe” with EU Commissioner Ferreira on Tuesday, 23 June 2020, 7-9pm CEST

Dear friends,

The European Commission has recently presented their proposals for a revised European budget for 2021-2027 and a recovery package. Therein, regional funds play a fundamental role and should be equipped with additional 82.6 billion Euros. However, large parts of the money should be handed to the member states without strong conditions. May those be climate-targets or the support of specific vulnerable groups as unemployed or youth. Is this the right path for the EU in order to effectively limit and reduce regional inequalities? Do we need stronger conditionality? Are today’s regional funds even the accurate policy instruments to help the EU to recover? Is there a need to update certain funds to make the EU future-proof?

During this webinar, organized by Greens/EFA Members of the European Parliament Niklas Nienaß (Coordinator – REGI committee) and Sven Giegold (Coordinator – ECON committee), we will discuss with:

  •             Elisa Ferreira, EU-Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms
  •             Prof. John Bachtler, Director of the European Policies Research Centre at the University of Strathclyde

Since the EU-Commission defined with their proposals the regional funds as fundamental means to support the EU to recover, it is crucial to discuss the impacts and pitfalls of the current proposal. Thus we invite you to take part in our interactive Webinar on Tuesday, 23. June 2020 from 19.00 – 20.30h. The format allows every participant to ask questions and thus, to shape the discussion.

Since the space is limited, register directly here.

Please also share the invitation with other interested people! We are looking forward to an exciting discussion with you.

With kind regards,

Niklas Nienaß & Sven Giegold
